After long hours of flight, 18 hours including two hours stop over at Taipei, Eva Air finally touched the ground of the Manila International Airport. It was so wonderful to be home again, just like being born again. Like all the trips I did, I wrote down my itinerary and what I hoped to accomplish. I had an open return flight ticket to the USA, and that was good for 6 months (flight ticket courtesy of my dear friend Dominica Quiteves Primarily, I was going to go to the OVERSEAS FILIPINO COUNCIL Congress in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, and to write ANITA’S KITCHEN. A good friend of mine, dared that I will be bored and will be home probably in one month. Let us see Ed Gomez, you don’t really know ANITA.
At the airport in Taipei waiting for the next flight to Manila.
I was met by my landlord, Peter, a German National friend of mine and of course I met him and his girlfriend Odette through the internet, in 2005. I have stayed with them too in 2006, and I always have the best accommodation in their condominium at Parc Chateau.
The Parc Chateau is located in Ortigas Center, Pasig. It is in the Telecommunication Business center in the city. I would be residing with my friends, Odette and Peter at the top floor. 19th floor.
Tired as I was, I managed to go to the wet market, or what we used to call “Palengke”. I was excited of course to see the vegetables and fishes I miss in the United States.
The Wet Market or the Palengke.
The first thing I did was go to the wet market in Pasig, to buy ingredients for the GENERAL KUMEH's Pinapaitan to be served as PULUTAN for the party.
I stunk the whole condo cooking the GEN. KUMEH’S PINAPAITAN, cooking for 50 people, was not easy. Thanks goodness for the easy living in the Philippines, I was loaned a personal assistant in Rona, a sweet lady from Samar. Another shipment of Tuna Belly and Salmon also arrived from Puerto Princesa. Drinks, beer, ice, tables and chairs were ordered and the terrace on the penthouse was ready for the next day for the GETTING TO KNOW YOU PARTY. I finally got done cooking the Pinapaitan at around 10:00 PM. Rona called a masseuse for me, and I felt brand new again.
